So you’re thinking of booking a newborn photography session for your little one? Firstly, a huge congratulations!
This is such an exciting time and of course you would love to capture those first moments. The first tiny details, your first family photographs and the first sleepy smiles. It's just a wonderful moment in time to document.
I would love to work with you and hopefully will answer any questions you may have before you book your Newborn Photoshoot.
In this blog I’ll explain exactly how my newborn sessions work and what you can expect from a session with myself.
Let’s go!
My Newborn Photography Sessions are taken in my beautiful cosy cabin studio based in Cradley Heath, Birmingham. Once you arrive to the studio, kick off your shoes, get cosy and comfortable and we will ensure your little one is happy and settled before we begin.
I always start my sessions with your formal family photographs. This way you can relax afterwards and any older siblings attending can cosy up with their tablets or toys!
We will start with a photograph of your family all together before taking it in turns to have a photograph with your little one. I adore these photographs and are always a favourite to capture!
If there are any older children attending, they are also able to have a photograph with their little sibling. If they are unable to support their sibling or do not want to hold them, I have a few magic tricks up my sleeve to ensure we are able to capture those photographs whilst keeping your newborn safe.
After the formal family photographs are taken we will begin focusing on your newborns individual photographs. I encourage you to bring your little one in a white sleep suit with a white vest underneath keeping the photographs minimalistic. I do have spares available in the studio if needed. Once both of the outfits are captured, I have knitted bloomers and outfits available in the studio to use. Also adding knitted wraps to create the more posed photographs.
My sessions are completely natural, I do not do any poses such as ‘froggy’ and no props are used. I will place your newborn to create beautiful timeless photographs. If your little one is comfortably asleep, we will also do tummy photographs.
It’s all in the details!
Detail photographs are my favourite to take. Throughout your session I will ask you to join me and add your hands to the photographs. Nothing is cuter than a newborns teeny toes curled around your thumb! Eyelashes, little toes, perfect pouts and button noses will be documented with macro photographs showing the adorable details of your newborn.
How long will this take?
I always schedule 2 hours for a newborn photography shoot however I would advise not booking anything straight afterwards just incase we need additional time!
My sessions are completely led by your baby and stay relaxed. I will never rush your family so if they need to feed, change or just need a cuddle - we have plenty of time. I know all babies and children are so different so I only book one newborn a day to ensure there is no pressure if they need longer to settle.
What happens if my baby won’t sleep?
Honestly, it is absolutely fine if your little one stays awake! We will focus on capturing their personalities through eye contact and the connection to yourself.
Once I have captured all of the photographs possible to do whilst awake, we can start trying to get little one to sleep. I find after an hour of being awake, newborns do get restless so we will take our time and cuddle your little one to sleep for those sleepy photographs.
Natural and timeless
I adore all things timeless so my newborn photography style is focusing on keeping things simple, clean and natural. I use soft white cashmere blankets and wraps to give that cosy warm feel to your newborn photographs and hand knitted bloomers.
You will receive a gallery full of love focusing purely on your newborn, the details and the emotions between your family.
How do I view my photographs?
Once our photo shoot is complete, I will begin working on your photographs! I keep my edit for your photographs very natural with a warm touch. If your little one is suffering with baby acne, have any scratches or marks from birth I can of course carefully edit this out for you.
Around 2-3 weeks after your session I will send you a link to your private password protected online gallery where you are able to view the edited photographs from your session. This is where you are able to select your included photographs and upgrade to additional photographs if you wish.
Once your photographs are selected, you can download your photographs directly from the gallery!
Questions?
Once booked, I will email across a Prep-Guide for yourself which will include any further details you may need including what to wear, what to bring, the studio address and much more but if you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to contact myself - I’m always here to help!
Sounds amazing! How do I book?
I advise booking in advance and you can contact myself as early as your 12 week scan to get your space reserved. I only take a set amount of newborns each month to allow space to move around and be as flexible as needed.
If your little one is already here, I do offer Older Newborn Sessions too so do not worry we can always capture beautiful photographs of your little ones.
To book your newborn session I kindly ask you to complete my contact form with your due date. I will pencil in your session on your due date and once little one is here, we will confirm your appointment for you.
To secure your space, I take a £50 non-refundable deposit along with a completed contract and questionnaire!
I look forward to hearing from you,
All my love,
Jodi x
